ASSP Issues New Z10 Standard

September 23, 2019

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), with approval of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), issued a new Z10 standard ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 to update safety and health management systems.

This new standard is designed as a comprehensive blueprint to guide implementation and enforcement of safety management systems to facilitate an overall workplace culture of safety and health.

The new standard improves organizational alignment and communication by incorporating planned processes into business systems. It has customizable elements that are based on an organization’s characteristics like hazard exposures, risk levels, industry type and business processes, among other variables.

ASSP is offering a safety management systems track at its ASSP SafetyFOCUS Immersive education event from February 13-20, 2020, in Las Vegas. Full-day courses will highlight systems-based thinking and the Implementation of the revised Z10 standard. Attendees can learn about Integrating Z10 elements with other applicable management systems such as ISO 9001, 14000 and 45001 as well as with voluntary protection programs and “Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs” from OSHA.
